Apple launched Tiger

April 30, 2005
(CoolAvenues News Wire)

In the backdrop of launch of N 91 by Nokia, & show case Longhorn by Microsoft, Apple launched its feature-rich operating system named as Tiger yesterday, amid the usual crowd-frenzy, where people lined up in front of stores to get a hand on Tiger.

Touted by Apple as world's most advanced operating system, Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger has around 200 features with two main features called as Spotlight & Dashboard which are not available in any other operating system as of today. Spotlight is a desktop search technology that lets users instantly find anything stored on their Mac, including documents, e-mails, contacts and images, while dashboard lets users to quickly access important information like weather forecasts and stock quotes, by connecting to Internet.

At present, third party applications like Google Desktop Search & Yahoo Alert give Windows OS users the same capabilities as are going to be offered by Spotlight & Dashboard. However, as per Apple, Spotlight & Dashboard are going to offer better user experience, as these two products are directly built into the operating system unlike Windows XP.

Priced at $129, Tiger is expected to create considerable noise on the backdrop of popularity of iPod, which has seen unprecedented success since its launch. Moreover, with Longhorn expected not before 2006, analysts are keenly watching if Apple will be able to increase its market share in OS market, where out of 10 computers, 9 are on Windows OS.

Concluded.
