Hyundai Motor India records robust growth with 136% jump in domestic sales

Hyundai Motor India, subsidiary of Hyundai Corporation - South Korea, reported strong performance in the month of April by selling 13,362 vehicles in the domestic market and 6,553 vehicles in the export market, a growth of 97% compared to sales in April'04. The cumulative sales of the company (Exports and Domestic) stood at 19,915 units in April'05, an increase of 121% over the same period last year.

The strong performance was on the back of its segment B car Santro, which sold 14,552 units, while its premium offering Getz sold only 1,026 units. The other break-up is as follows: 3,791 units of Accent, 206 units of Elantra, 119 units of Sonata, 200 units of the newly launched SUV Tucson, and 21 units of the Terracan.

Hyundai Motors India is the second largest carmaker in India after Maruti Suzuki.

Indian car market, which was a very small market till mid-90s, has expanded considerably after economy liberalization. Majority of auto majors have got a presence in India either in the form of local manufacturing or assembly or through dealership. Last fiscal Indian car market grew by more than 18% and sold more than a million vehicles.
