N Sunil Kumar, a student of XLRI’s one year MBA program (GMP 2006-07) has been appointed as Chief Executive Officer of ABN AMRO Foundation. Sunil who was earlier working with NABARD, plans to leverage his vast experience and the micro-finance skills learnt during the MBA program in his new assignment to manage projects that enhance income generation by providing structure and/or financial capital to enable communities, organizations and institutions to earn a sustainable living.
This appointment has created a lot of firsts in the BSchool segment: For any student of any BSchool in India, this is the first placement as a CEO and although the salary figure stands undisclosed but there are rumours at the XLRI campus says that it is one of the highest so far from any B-school student. Also, it is the first placement of the 55 member strong GMP Batch of 2006-07 of XLRI.
Sunil has rich industry experience of over 19 years working with NABARD in various branches in Hyderabad, Mumbai and Bhubaneshwar. He was an AGM in NABARD at the time he joined GMP programme this June.
The interview process for the post of the CEO happened in Mumbai and lasted several rounds. In the end it was Sunil’s relevant industry knowledge and experience and his GMP education that settled the matter in his favour. In Sunil’s words, “The industry has a very good perception about one year programmes and the industry has started looking for people with the profiles and expertise that one-year B-school programmes are offering”.
The ABN AMRO Foundation was set up in December 2005 as part of the bank’s commitment to foster sustainable development.
XLRI’s 1 year GMP program is an accelerated program which caters to the ever growing demand for business leaders who are well equipped to be operational from day one. It has been designed for people with the urge to expand their knowledge and experience, thereby enabling them to shoulder greater responsibilites as they move up in the corporate hierarchy. The current batch of GMP at XLRI has 55 students with an average work experience of six years drawn from IT, Finance, Marketing and Operations backgrounds and have has a representation from sectors as diverse as Banking, Accounting, IT, ITES, Education, Intelligence, Oil, Power, Manufacturing, telecom among others.

Last year Coolavenues, exposed the exaggeration of salary figures of IIMA agri student by NDTV, but sadly this year they are part of a similar misrepresentation.
Why do u highlight the fact that the concerned person was an MBA student and why not the fact that he was already in mid/senior management of a large corporate before this course.
Just ask the person what his salary was before joining the course and what’s the premium that he is getting for his degree.
This appointment has more to do with the rich experience that the person already had than the course by XLRI.
The contribution will be in a similar ratio 19:1, 19 parts being due to his experience (19 yrs) and 1 part due to the course (1 year).
This is just like saying that Dr. Manmohan Singh has been appointed the Prime Minister of India due to the honorary doctorate that has been awarded to him by Cambridge.
Coolavenues shouldnt have indulged in such a misrepresentation.
Hi
We just want to clarify that in this news report it is not the intention to hype salary. Further It is noted in the news itself that the person concerned is already AGM with NABARD but here I wish to point out that NABARD is governed by RBI and has same salary structure so a jump for an AGM of NABARD to this post is quite a significant jump and an achievement and hence this news.
Hope this clarifies our stand.

Congrats to Sunil Kumar for becoming the CEO and more so to XLRI for again creating history and enhancing its reputation of being one of the finest B-schools of India.
I think instead of downplaying such achievements we should be more encouraging and appreciate such landmarks.
Kudos to coolavenues for its efforts in ths direction.
I think that there has been much hoopla about the salary and the CEO position which the person in question has got .It more or less is the reflection of the person’s 20 odd years experience in NABARD rather than anything to do with XLRI
Lemme ask a question .Whats the second best salary of that programme .and if u sheck out the net worth of the ABN AMRO foundation , it would come out to be less than being handled by a project manager or say some one similar in rank .Remember , its ABN AMRO foundation and not ABN AMRO BANK …
Still the achievment is commendable but cool avenues should not induldge in over publicising this sort of things without proper industry research !!
Great News! Congrats for great job!
Thanks to coolav for sharing the news!
