IIMs experiment with technology has gone sour due to computer snag hitting the online conduct of CAT 2009 exam. As per media reports, an unspecified number of centers in six cities reported computer crash. The centers have asked students to book another time slot. The server crashed soon after the CAT examination began in Chennai, Kolkata, Bhopal, Bangalore, Mumbai and Pune, affecting large number students.

Online CAT examination was IIMs first attempt to shift paper pencil exam to computer based testing and follow the GMAT exam pattern. Earlier IIMs have awarded the tender to an American company ProMetric for conduct of online exams.

CAT is one of the toughest exam in the world where more than 2.5 lakh students vie with each other to gain entry into IIMs which have less than 1500 seats.

For last 3-4 years CAT exam has always been dogged by controversies including paper leakage, server collapse, reservation etc.

CAT scores determine entry to the IIMs in Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Kolkata, Indore, Lucknow, Kozhikode and Shillong and host of other institutes which accept CAT score for admission to their Management Programmes.

Well I think that the IIMs should think about it seriously…..as it is a matter of our career…..

Shift in the technology is a good thing but that should be full proof……..This has really impacted a lot on the IIMs ability……….

Its a matter for big concern, never expected this from the Best B Schools of India. People managing should have understood prior to the exam that there will be large number of students attempting and there could be a problem of overloading. Cant understand who all are managing this. The paper pencil system is the one they could manage , they should go back to that, and increase human and technical resources to manage it properly.

when iim had announced for the online exam,it was looking good but they could have not conducted it smartly.somewhere in the trial they did a blunder.its really annhiliating the future of thousand aspirants those who have to reschedule their exam date.it was very disspointed that we had to see that kind of management from iims.but student must not lose their nerves ,we need to coperate in this situation.i hope that malady will definite get some remedy.

What a shame…..both for IIM and Prometric. CAT has become synonymous with controversy, failures and too much hype. I guess AIMA guys are doing fairly well. Aren’t we giving too much importance to IIM’s ? Is this the end of road for MBA aspirants…..I feel we really need an introspection.

since for the ist time cat has been online,it is the students who need to suffer now……..the management should had been well aware of the problems thats gonna arise due to online exam………

YESTERDAY I APPEARED FOR CAT 2009.I LOST MY EXAM, AFTER COMPLETOIN OF HALF AN HOUR ,WHEN I TRIED TO REVIEW MY PAPER TO ANALYSE FOR MY MINIMUM CUTOFF ELIGIBILITY IN FIRST SESSION(QUANT).THE TUTOR SAID PRESS “QUIT EXAM” BUTTON IF YOU WANT TO QUIT AND “REVIEW “BUTTON TO REVIEW THE EXAM THERE IS ANOTHER OPTION BUTTON “END” WHICH I MEANT THAT IT IS FOR END REVIEW.BUT NO ALERT BOX APPEARED TO QUIT AND MY EXAM WAS OVER. THIS IS MY FIRST ATTEMPT WITH GOOD HOPES BUT EFFORTS WERE IN VAIN.END BUTTON MEANT FOR END REVIEW OR END EXAM?

This is not CAT its a Big Joke spelled by IIM’s on serious aspirants like us working hard for the last 1 year or so.. I gave my CAT on 2nd at IMS ghaziabad..it was a torturous experience. paper starting after a half hour delay and then all people talkin at our backs, with invigilators having no information about buttons or review options..many people were confused..persons next to me clicked END wthin 2 mins of starting the exam..another one had computer crashing every 10 mins or so, many people could give only half of the paper after sitting for consecutive 5 hours..
it was damn touch to concentrate..with very bad facilities..i messes it all eventhough it was quite an easy paper..THIS SHOULD BE CANCELLED AND CAT SHOULD BE TAKIN IN JAN OR FEB AGAIN..this wasnt an exam, theres no equality. God Bless them!!! Plz come back to Paper exam this year and try online the next year with all precautions taken.

My day went cool and calm. No probs related to technical concern. But personally feels dat level of questions were not up to d mark. While giving d paper, couldn’t believe dat I’m giving d “CAT”. Truly, paper/pencil pattern was more effective. Well ! hope IIM’s will look back 2 paper/ pencil pattern.
